Introducing MENTO: Next Phase of Governance and Rewards in MiniPay

The Mento Community is always looking for ways to make the Mento Platform more useful, transparent, and community-driven. As we move into 2025, we are excited to introduce MENTO, a new governance token designed to give users a real voice in the direction of the Mento Platform. By saving, transacting and swapping into cUSD, MiniPay users will be eligible for extra MENTO rewards.
MENTO token is a symbol of participation and ownership. By holding MENTO, MiniPay users gain the ability to vote on key decisions, contributing to the future direction of the Mento ecosystem. MENTO is an open invitation to anyone, crypto natives and newcomers, to take an active role in the platform’s growth and be part of something bigger.
A New Era of Rewards: From cUSD to MENTO
Previously, MiniPay Mento rewards have been distributed in cUSD, a decentralized Mento stablecoin tracking the U.S. Dollar. While cUSD offers a dependable way to save and earn, MENTO brings a new dimension, opening the door to the Mento Community, Mento governance and more.
As we prepare for MENTO's official launch later this year, MiniPay users can be rewarded for transacting, holding and swapping into cUSD with early access to earn MENTO tokens. This transition goes beyond a typical airdrop. It offers an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a community-led platform. Instead of earning stable-value rewards, users now collect MENTO, a token with real governance power and long-term market potential.
How Will MENTO Rewards Work Starting June 2025
Beginning in June 2025, MiniPay users can receive rewards in the form of $MENTO-claim tokens. These claim tokens are a temporary placeholder while the actual MENTO tokens remain locked ahead of their full release. They ensure your rewards are secured and visible, and they will automatically convert to usable MENTO once the token is transferable later in the year.
What You Will Be Able to Do With MENTO
Once MENTO becomes tradable on crypto exchanges, holders will have access to a range of capabilities:
- Vote on proposals that affect how the Mento Platform evolves
- Hold MENTO as a dynamic asset in your digital wallet
- Trade MENTO on participating crypto exchanges
This is your chance to move from being a Mento stablecoin user to being a stakeholder in the Mento Community.
Not a Stablecoin, and That’s by Design
Unlike cUSD, which is designed to stay at $1 USD, MENTO is not a stablecoin. Its value will rise or fall based on market demand and community participation. This opens up possibilities for growth and greater involvement in the Mento ecosystem, but also introduces volatility that users should be aware of.
Access and Availability
Your MENTO rewards will become accessible as soon as the MENTO token goes live on exchanges in 2025. You will receive a notification in the Mento dApp when the launch happens, along with clear steps on how to claim and use your tokens.
In the meantime, you can track your rewards through the rewards section of the Mento dApp in MiniPay.
It is important to understand what goes into launching a fully functioning token. Before MENTO token can become transferable, and therefore tradable, several pieces of critical infrastructure must be built and tested. This includes onchain smart contracts and safety measures, all handled by core contributors like Mento Labs and other development teams. Once this infrastructure is ready, the MENTO token will become transferable. Only then it will be listed on exchanges. It’s a process rooted in responsibility and teams are working tirelessly to deliver for every member of the Mento Community.
